Welcome to Westfield
Community School Middle School P.E. Uniforms: All
Students must dress for class. Uniforms for 6th graders will be
issued during the first week of school in class (you have already paid for it
in your school fees).Have a size in
mind for a t-shirts and shorts.The
sizes range from extra small to 2XXL.This can be the same uniform worn throughout a student’s P.E. career in
District 300. 7th and 8th graders can purchase a new
uniform in the main office (shirt $5, shorts $10). Grades:P.E. grades are distributed into 4
categories. The Academic Behavior Grade is worth 5% of the overall grade and is
calculated/recorded daily (but can be subject to change based on gained
information), and is based on a student’s ability to demonstrate
positive/appropriate behaviors in P.E. class. The Daily Grade (practice) is
worth 15% of the overall grade and is based on a student’s ability to comply
with the procedures required for successful participation in P.E. class (examples:
punctuality, appropriate dressing,
etc.).The Performance Activity Grade is 40% of a student’s grade.This component is based on a student’s effort,
improvement, and a mastery of introduced skills and strategies. The Summative
Grade is worth 40% of a student’s grade and is determined by a student’s
performance on the unit’s written exam. Activities:Our core philosophy as a program is to
provide a wide array of activities that learners may incorporate into their
lives, with an emphasis on fitness. We
will continue to participate in FitnessGram, and tests will be
conducted at the beginning and end of the school year. The units will be touch football,
cross-country, soccer, badminton, volleyball, basketball, floor hockey, dance,
and softball. We will have 2 fitness
days each week, and throughout the year, will present a variety of physically-based
educational experiences. Websites: Student
grades are posted on Infinite Campus at the end of each
unit (academic behavior grades aside,
they post the next day, and may be altered subsequently based on teacher
communications).Study guides for the
P.E. tests are posted on the Westfield Website on the Physical Education page
(scroll down on the quarterly units)http://wcs.d300.org/ (Westfield Site) http://westfieldpe.weebly.com/ (P.E. Page) Other Notes:To be excused from P.E. students need to
provide a note from home or a physician.Notes from home are good for up to 3 days.If a student cannot participate for an
extended period of time (doctor’s note), we ask for the doctor to account for
any ability the student may have that would allow for limited physical
participation (example: …has broken arm, but can walk the track during class).
Limited participation needs to be stated in the note. In the first and fourth quarters we are planning to go outside most days. When it gets cooler
we encourage students to have sweatshirts, knit hats, and/or sweatpants to wear
in addition to the P.E. uniform. It
however, cannot be any article of clothing that is worn throughout the school
day (sweat/smell issue). Students will change in the locker rooms. We insist that all students have deodorant to
use after class.Students cannot have
spray deodorants (ex. Axe) because of allergy and breathing
issues that they may cause. *If you have any questions, feel free to contact any member of the P.E. staff. Sue Woods[email protected]ext. 7724 Traci Kopetsky [email protected]ext. 7722 Dan
